Today my daughter and I checked a goal off our list. We planted our indoor herb garden which we have been really excited about!

She planted the tiny seeds in the dirt and learned how to gently push the dirt back over and pat the soil back down and water it. I love teaching her the simple lessons in life that seem so small but have such an impact. She’ll have to wait to see the fruits of our labor, and that’s a lesson in and of itself!

Pretty soon we’ll be harvesting parsley, chives, thyme, oregano, mint and more for our cooking and baking adventures!

This is one of the new pursuits I’m taking up that I mentioned in my Hike at Mt. Talbert, 2016 Wrap Up post, and I’m happy to report I’m still on board with growing some of my own food in 2017. I bought containers and seeds for my garden when spring arrives. I’ve got my planting plan all mapped out. I am truly excited to be gardening again for the first time since having kids. My parents always gardened when I was growing up, and I learned a lot from them. It’s very rewarding and teaches patience and responsibility and connection to the earth. I’m glad I can share it with my kids. Between growing our own food, cooking and baking together, I’m sure hoping to teach my kids to be able to take care of themselves when they’re older.
